Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Brigade Merge
Following a period of working together, the Dorset Fire & Rescue Service merged with the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service on 1st April 2016. The Chief Fire Officer is Darran Gunter, who, with his administration team, will be based in the Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury.
Over 1000 full-time and on-call firefighters now form the fourth largest fire service in England and will serve nearly one and a half million people in the region.
Although savings of up to £6 million are hoped to be made annually, the general public should see no difference in the level of service. In fact, improvements should be noticed. All 50 fire stations will remain open and additional frontline firefighters are to be engaged.
